Global pip Stallion to stay top; big win for Kaya

Defending champions Global maintained their one-point lead at the top of the United Football League on Saturday with a last-gasp 2-1 win over Stallion FC.

Mark Hartmann put Global ahead at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in the eighth minute with a powerful header after Satoshi Otomo’s initial effort had come back off the bar, only for Jordan Mintah to equalise for Stallion six minutes later.

But just when it looked as though a draw was on the cards, Dennis Villanueva netted on the rebound with a minute remaining to hand Leigh Manson’s charges maximum points, which was enough to see them stay clear of the chasing pack although they have played a game more.

In Saturday’s earlier game, Kaya continued their dominant start to the campaign as they crushed Manila Jeepney 4-0, making it three wins and three clean sheets in a row.

Kaya edged in front through Joshua Beloya’s 27th-minute opener, before Chris Greatwich doubled their lead when he slotted home seven minutes after the hour mark following good work down the wing by Louis Clark.

Substitute Younousse Yaogo then got in on the act by adding another in the 81st minute, and the rout was completed a minute later when Jovin Bedic netted his side’s fourth of the evening.
