Kelantan will have a new-look attack featuring Francis Forkey Doe and Mohammed Ghaddar in 2014 after they confirmed their playing list for the upcoming Malaysia Super League campaign.
The Red Warriors, who won the FA Cup last season and will be playing in the AFC Cup in 2014, lost a host of big names in the off-season following the departures of the likes of Shakir Shaari, Norfarhan Muhammad, Indra Putra Mahayuddin and Dickson Nwakaeme.
In particular, they looked in dire need of attacking reinforcements but any fears fans may have had were allayed on Tuesday after the club’s squad for the new season was announced.
Liberia international Forkey Doe, who scored 25 league goals in the past two seasons for Terengganu and Selangor, will be Kelantan’s new spearhead in attack, and he will be ably supported by Lebanon forward Ghaddar, whose previous spell with the side saw him bag 21 goals in 32 games back in 2012.
The Sultan Mohammad IV Stadium will also play home to ex-Negeri Sembilan star Ahmad Shakir Ali in 2014, as well as Australian-Malaysian forward Brendan Gan, a product of A-League outfit Sydney FC who plied his trade with Sabah two seasons ago.
The Red Warriors, who will under Englishman Steve Darby this season, have also brought in reinforcements in midfield after securing the services of Malaysia international Amar Rohidan and exciting Harimau Muda winger Wan Zaharulnizam.
However, one of the new faces that is likely to excite the Kota Bharu faithful the most is that of Egypt international Mohamed Shawky, who had a three-year stint in England with Middlesbrough and has over 60 caps to his name.
In defence, Kelantan have made up for the losses of S. Subramaniam, Azizi Matt Rose and Daudsu Jamaluddin by signing Nazri Ahmad from Darul Takzim, while the likes of Obinna Nwaneri, Nik Shahrul Azim and Zairul Fitree Ishak have been retained.
Although there are plenty of new faces at Kelantan for the coming campaign, plenty will be expected from the club’s older brigade, including captain Badhri Radzi, goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi and Nigerian centre-back Obinna.
