Song Lam Nghe An made it two wins from two in the 2014 V.League 1 campaign on Sunday after cruising to a 6-1 victory over QNK Quang Nam at the Vinh Stadium.
Paul Emile Biyaga fired the hosts ahead after just five minutes, before Tran Phi Son made it 2-0 in the 25th minute.
Biyaga grabbed his second of the game in the 38th minute to give SLNA a healthy lead at halftime but they showed no signs of letting after the break; Nguyen Hong Viet netting his side’s fourth in the 57th minute.
Just two minutes later, Cameroonian forward Edouard Ndjodo got in on the act before Le Cong Vinh added a sixth in the 71st minute to complete the rout, although Quang Nam did manage a consolation effort through Yahaya Adamu three minutes later.
The result was enough to send Song Lam Nghe An top of the table on goal difference ahead of Ha Noi T&T, who also maintained their perfect start to the new season with a 4-1 win at Hoang Anh Gia Lai.
Vietnam international Nguyen Van Quyet put the visitors ahead in the 24th minute before Hoang Vu Samson added a second three minutes before the hour mark, but HAGL hit back thanks to Timothy Anjembe’s 72nd-minute effort.
However, Nguyen Ngoc Duy restored Ha Noi’s two-goal cushion when he netted three minutes from the end, before Van Quyet rounded things off by doubling his tally in the fifth minute of injury-time.
Elsewhere on Friday, Than Quang Ninh overcame a halftime deficit to beat XM The Vissai Ninh Binh 3-1 at the Ninh Binh Stadium.
While it had been Vissai who took a 21st minute lead through a strike from ex-Congo international Patiyo Tambwe, Peter Omoduemuke equalised for the visitors three minutes into the second half.
From there, the momentum swung in Quang Ninh’s favour and they edged ahead three minutes later thanks to an Uche Iheruome effort, before Vu Minh Tuan struck to seal the win in the 70th minute.
On Saturday, Dong Tam Long An produced a stunning late comeback to hold Hai Phong to a 2-2 draw at the Long An Stadium.
Hai Phong looked headed for victory after Nguyen Quang Hai fired them ahead in the 22nd minute, before Andre Fagan doubled their advantage seven minutes after the hour mark.
But with eight minutes left on the clock, Phan Vai Tai Em netted to keep Long An’s hopes alive, and six minutes later, Danny Mrwanda found the back of the net to earn his side a share of the spoils.
Saturday’s other game saw Thanh Hoa beat SHB Da Nang 1-0 thanks to Nastja Ceh’s 95th-minute winner, while Hung Vuong An Giang and Dong Nai played out a 0-0 draw on Sunday.
