Tanjong Pagar confirm Firdaus, Nor Azli, Tengku signings

Tanjong Pagar United’s squad for the 2014 Great Eastern-YEO’s S.League season continued to take shape on Wednesday after they confirmed the signing of a trio of established stalwarts.

Winger Firdaus Idros and defender Nor Azli Yusoff have both joined the club from 2013 RHB Singapore Cup champions Home United, while anchorman Tengku Mushadad arrives at the Queenstown Stadium following two years with Balestier Khalsa.

The Jaguars are coming off the back off a successful campaign after finishing sixth in the league, as well as reaching the final of the Singapore Cup in Patrick Vallee’s first year at the helm.

But having retained just ten players from last year’s roster, the off-season was always going to be a busy period for Tanjong Pagar.

Their first signing was announced midway through December in the form of winger Ruzaini Zainal, who was part of the Tampines Rovers side that won the S.League last term.

And on Wednesday, it was confirmed that he will be joined by former Protectors duo Firdaus and Nor Azli.

“I am glad to be able to join Tanjong Pagar United FC for the coming season,” Firdaus said on the club’s official website.

“It was a hard decision for me to move on from Home United because I have been there for five years, but I know I’ve made the right decision.”

Joining Firdaus in moving from the Bishan Stadium is Nor Azli, a player capable of being deployed in any defensive role and who is known for his reliability.

But despite playing a key role for Home in 2012, the 30-year-old fell out of favour with former coach Lee Lim-saeng last year and is looking forward to a new lease of life under Vallee.

“After three years at Home United, I thought a change of environment would be nice,” he revealed.

“I just want to do my best and win as much as possible for Tanjong Pagar United.

“Coach Vallee is one of the reasons I came to TPUFC as I heard he is a really good coach. I am looking forward to working with him.”

Likewise, Tengku, who was a key member at Balestier over the past two years, is looking forward to working under his new coach, having been impressed in games against the Jaguars last season.

“I can’t wait to start working with the team and especially coach Vallee,” the Singapore international said.

“The fighting spirit he instilled in the team, as well as the desire to win, is something which I experienced when playing against TPUFC previously.

“I believe it will be an exciting time ahead for me to work with my new team-mates and I hope I can contribute to a successful season for the club.”
