Arema maintain 100% record; Persib held by Persijap

Arema Cronus continued their perfect start to the 2014 Indonesia Super League campaign after claiming a 2-0 win at Sriwijaya on Sunday evening.

The visitors took the lead at the Gelora Sriwijaya in the 22nd minute when veteran striker Cristian Gonzales found the back of the net, but Ahmad Bustomi wasted an excellent chance to double their lead in the four minutes later; failing in his attempt to chip Fauzi Toldo from the spot.

However, Arema eventually got their second six minutes after the half-hour mark when Beto netted his third goal of the campaign, which proved enough to seal the win and send his side two points clear at the top of the Western zone.

Persib Bandung were unable to match Arema’s exploits as they saw their own 100% record come to an end with a 1-1 draw at Persijap Jepara.

Following a goalless first half at the Gelora Bumi Kartini, the hosts edged ahead thanks to Claudinho’s 58th-minute strike.

Persib managed to hit back four minutes later via an own-goal from Cantur Rintang but they were unable to find a winner in the remainder of the game, allowing Persijap to hold out for their first point of the season.

Meanwhile, Persik Kediri are still winless following a 2-1 home defeat to Pelita Bandung Raya at the Brawijaya Stadium.

After Agus Indra Kurniawan had opened the scoring in the 13th minute, Indonesia starlet Rizky Pellu netted in first-half injury-time to hand Pelita a comfortable lead at the break.

Persik did pull one back when Jean Paul Casimir Boumsong struck in the 69th minute, but the visitors always remained in control and went on to claim the win.

Over in the Eastern zone, Putra Samarinda claimed their first win of the campaign in style after thrashing Perseru Serui 5-0 at the Segiri Samarinda Stadium.

The only goal of opening 45 came when Ilija Spasojevic scored in the 14th minute, but Bayu Gatra Sanggiawan doubled the hosts’ lead ten minutes after the break.

Three minutes later, Spasojevic grabbed his second of the game and Pavel Solomin soon made it 4-0 in the 68th minute.

But the afternoon belonged to Spasojevic and the Australian went on to complete his hat-trick 15 minutes from time, capping off a fine day’s work from him and his team.
