PSM Makassar claim first victory; Putra Samarinda held

PSM Makassar recorded their first win of the 2014 Indonesia Super League campaign after beating Eastern zone opponents Persiba Bantul 4-0 on Wednesday.

In their first game since Rudi Keltjes took over from Jorg Steinebrunner at the helm, PSM took the lead at the Gelora Bung Tomo after 11 minutes when Australian Michael Baird opened the scoring.

Seven minutes after the break, they doubled their lead through an Andi Oddang effort, before Indonesia international Rasyid Bakri in the 65th minute added a third to all but end the contest.

And in the first minute of injury-time, Baird grabbed his second of the game to round off the scoring and seal PSM’s first win of the season.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Putra Samarinda missed the chance to go top of the Eastern zone after being held to a 2-2 draw by Persepam Madura United at the Segiri Samarinda Stadium.

It was Madura who took a seventh-minute lead thanks to a Silvio Escobar strike, but Pavel Solomin fired the hosts level three minutes after the hour mark.

It then look as though Samarinda would claim all three points when Rahel Radiansyah put them ahead six minutes from time, but right at the death, Ishak Djober struck to steal a share of the spoils for the visitors.

On Tuesday, Persebaya Surabaya moved level on points with Eastern leaders Mitra Kukar following a 1-1 draw with Persiram Raja Ampat.

Persiram took the lead five minutes after the half-hour mark when Errol Simunapendi broke the deadlock, but a Greg Nwokolo effort in the 58th minute was enough to earn the hosts a point at the Gelora Bung Tomo.

Tuesday’s other game saw Sriwijaya climb up to fifth in the Western zone with a 2-1 home win over Persjiap Jepara.

Sriwijaya edged ahead in the 37th minute thanks to a strike from Asri Akbar, before Lancine Kone doubled their tally with a penalty two minutes after halftime.

Danial managed to pull one back for Persijap seven minutes later, but the hosts did enough to hold out for the three points.
