Perseru Serui climbed up to fourth in the Eastern zone of the Indonesia Super League on Sunday after recording a 3-2 win over Persiba Balikpapan.
Cameroonian defender Seme Pattrick put Perseru ahead at the Mandala Stadium when he scored with a penalty after ten minutes, but the visitors responded three minutes later through a strike from Carlos Javier Gonzales.
Oktovianus Maniani then scored in the 18th minute to restore the hosts’ lead, but they were once again pegged back after Persiba were awarded a spot-kick of their own shortly before the half-hour mark; Ansu Toure making no mistake from 12 yards.
But in the 73rd minute, Perseru went ahead for the third time when Arthur Barrios Bonai found the back of the net, and this time they were able to hold out and claim maximum points.
In Sunday’s other game, PSM Makassar were denied a second straight victory following the appointment of Rudi Keltjes as their new coach after being held to a 1-1 draw by Persiram Raja Ampat at the Gelora Bung Tomo.
PSM were leading after Ponaryo Astaman opened the scoring from the spot just before halftime, but a minute from time, Georges Parfait Mbida-Messi also converted a penalty to earn Persiram a share of the spoils.
