Ten-man Kelantan moved top of the Malaysia Super League on Saturday after coming from behind to beat defending champions LIONSXII 2-1 at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
It was the LIONSXII who had taken the lead three minutes before halftime when Khairul Amri notched his fourth goal of the campaign; finding a yard of space inside the box before lashing home a neat pass from Shahfiq Ghani on the volley.
However, the Red Warriors equalised in the 51st minute after Ahmad Fakri Saarani raced onto a long ball and coolly slotted past the onrushing Izwan Mahbud, only to be reduced to ten men in the 79th minute when Ahmad Shakir Ali was sent off for stamping on Afiq Yunos.
But despite the numerical deficit, Kelantan went on to claim the three points after Francis Forkey Doe broke the offside trap and burst past Izwan, before slotting the ball into the unguarded net.
With Terengganu not in action this week, the win was enough to see Kelantan claim a two-point lead at the top of the table.
Johor Darul Ta’zim climbed up four spots to second after cruising to a 2-0 victory at ten-man Sime Darby.
Ex-Argentina international Luciano Figueroa fired Harimau Selatan ahead at the Selayang Stadium in the 23rd minute with a stunning 25-yard freekick, before Norshahrul Idlan Talaha doubled their lead seven minutes later after firing home on the rebound.
Things then went from bad to worse for the hosts as they had Uzbek midfielder Dilshod Sharofetdinov sent off two minutes after the hour mark, allowing Darul Ta’zim to comfortably close out the game.
Pahang got back to winning ways in some style as they recorded an emphatic 4-1 win over ATM at the Darulmakmur Stadium.
After Matias Conti had handed them a 14th-minute lead with a bullet header, Dickson Nwakaeme made it 2-0 four minutes later when he evaded Amirizdwan Taj Tajuddin’s sliding challenge and skipped inside another defender before firing home.
Faizol Hussein then added a third seven minutes before halftime when he curled a delightful freekick into the top corner, and the contest was all but over in the 50th minute when Nwakaeme grabbed his second of the evening; the Nigerian proving impossible to contain again as he brushed off Amirizdwan before firing into the back of the net.
ATM did manage to pull one back nine minutes from time when Juan Arostegui met a left-wing cross with a good header into the bottom corner, but it proved to be little more than a mere consolation for the visitors.
Struggling T-Team claimed a much-needed three points after beating Sarawak 2-0 at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium to move off the foot of the table.
Ramzul Zahini Adnan got them on their way when he netted a minute into the second half, before Badrul Hisyam Morris wrapped things up with a second five minutes from time.
Finally, Perak and PKNS FC shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw at the Perak Stadium.
The hosts had edged ahead after just six minutes thanks to a strike from Brazilian striker Eliel da Cruz Guardiano, but Karlo Primorac struck in the 38th minute to earn PKNS a point.
