Padang overtake Sriwijaya; Persiba Bantul still winless

Semen Padang leapfrogged Sriwijaya into fifth place in the Western zone of the Indonesia Super League following a 2-1 win at the Haji Agus Salim Stadium on Thursday.

The hosts had taken the lead after 13 minutes when Airlangga Sutjipto found the back of the net, but Sriwijaya pulled level in the 26th minute through a strike from Vendry Mofu.

However, Vendry turned hero to villain four minutes before the hour mark when he was issued his marching orders, after receiving a second yellow.

And 11 minutes later, Kabau Sirah made the most of the numerical advantage, as Argentine midfielder Esteban Gabriel Vizcarra clinically converted from the spot to hand his side all three points.

Over in the Eastern zone, Persiba Bantul are still looking for their first win of 2014 following a 1-1 draw at home to Putra Samarinda.

Persiba had edged ahead on the stroke of halftime after Emile Mbamba found the back of the net.

But 17 minutes from time, Putra went on to claim a share of the spoils after Montenegrin striker Ilija Spasojevic struck his six goal of the season, moving ahead of Arema Cronus’ Cristian Gonzales in the top scorers chart in the process.
