Global denied by Stallion; Army edge Pasargad

Global missed the chance to move seven points clear at the top of the United Football League on Thursday after twice relinquishing their lead in a 3-3 draw with champions Stallion.

Leigh Manson’s charges took the lead at the Emperador Stadium a minute when Japanese attacker Daisuke Sato found the back of the net; pouncing on a loose ball at the far post and heading into an unguarded net.

And four minutes into the second half, they edged further ahead when Milad Behgandom received the ball inside the box and eased his way between two defenders, before finding the back of the net with an emphatic finish.

However, Stallion hit back a minute before the hour mark after an incisive first-time pass from Ruben Doctora found Fitch Arboleda, who made no mistake in slotting past Roland Dely Sadia.

Just three minutes later, the scores were remarkably level thanks to more excellent work by Doctora, who produced another excellent pass down the left to release Naser Doroudian, whose low drive forced Valentine Kama to fire into his own net.

Global did reclaim the lead in the 71st minute when Jason de Jong drove through the middle and found Behgandom, who skipped past a challenge before blasting a shot past Wilson Munoz.

But just when it looked like they had done enough for the three points, Stallion responded once again to force the draw – Doctora beating the offside trap and bursting past the onrushing Sadia, before keeping his composure to fire into an unguarded net.

The result means Global are now five points clear of closest challengers Kaya and Loyola Meralco Sparks at the top of the table, while Stallion remain in fourth on 24 points – nine away from the top three.

In Thursday’s early kickoff, Philippine Army got back to winning ways after four games without victory by beating bottom side Pasargad 2-1.

Shin Seok-jeon fired Army ahead in the 29th minute with a neat finish following an excellent past from John Cain, before Woo Song headed home to extend their lead ten minutes later.

Hamed Fateh did pull one back for Pasargad from the spot four minutes before the break but they were just unable to find an equaliser, allowing their opponents to hold out and claim their fifth win of the campaign.
