Pahang moved back top of the Malaysia Super League on Saturday evening after recording a 2-0 win over T-Team at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium.
Following a goalless first half, Argentine striker Matias Conti fired Tok Gajah ahead on the hour mark with his fourth goal of the campaign.
A minute from time, centre-back Zesh Rehman popped up at the other end to net his first goal for Pahang, wrapping up the three points for his side in the process.
The win sent Zainal Abidin Hassan’s charges back on top of the table with a two-point lead over Terengganu, although the Turtles do have a game in hand.
Defending champions LIONSXII got back to winning ways following last week’s disappointing 1-1 draw against T-Team after beating Sime Darby 2-0 at the Selayang Stadium.
Safuwan Baharudin got the Singaporean outfit on their way in the 52nd minute when he met Shahfiq Ghani’s excellent freekick and sent a header in off the post, before the win was secured ten minutes later when Khairul Amri added a second after dispossessing William Mensah on the edge of the box before sliding a shot into the bottom corner.
The win saw the LIONSXII climb one spot up to fourth and they remain two points behind Selangor, who claimed a 1-0 win over Perak at the Perak Stadium.
The winner came in the 21st minute when Paulo Rangel netted his ninth league goal of the season from the spot after he had been brought down inside the box by Tuah Iskandar, although any hopes Perak had of a comeback were effectively ended two minutes from time when they had Shahrizal Saad sent off.
Finally, Kelantan claimed their first win in five league outings after defeating struggling ATM 1-0 at the Sultan Mohammad IV Stadium.
Although they spent most of the game struggling to break down the opposition defence, the Red Warriors ultimately claimed all three points when Egypt international Mohamed Shawky struck a minute before the hour mark.
