Yadanarbon reclaim top spot; KBZ up to fourth

Yadanarbon moved back on top of the Myanmar National League on Saturday after cruising to a 5-0 win over bottom side GFA at the Bahtoo Stadium.

Edison Fonseca continued his impressive scoring run when he fired Yadanarbon ahead after just eight minutes, before Yan Aung Win doubled their tally six minutes later.

Fonseca then struck again in the 50th minute to put his side firmly in control of proceedings, and the result was beyond doubt a minute after the hour mark when Aung Win grabbed a brace too.

But the evening belonged to Fonseca and he went on to complete his hat-trick four minutes from time to rack up his 14th goal of the campaign, capping off a comfortable win for his side in the process.

The win was enough to send Yadanarbon two points clear at the top of the table, although second-placed Nay Pyi Taw now have a game in hand after their clash with Magway was rescheduled to June 2.

Kanbawza continued their climb up the table as they claimed their fourth win in five outings after beating Southern Myanmar 4-1 on Sunday.

It took them just two minutes to break the deadlock at the Thuwunna Stadium when Tihomir Zivkovic found the back of the net, and the Croat struck again in the 28th minute to put them comfortably ahead.

Just two minutes later, KBZ added a third through a Thein Than Win effort, but Southern Myanmar kept alive their hopes of a comeback when Soe Kyaw Thu pulled one back in the 66th minute.

Nonetheless, those were firmly extinguished three minutes later when Junior struck Kanbawza’s fourth to wrap up the three points.

Sunday’s other game saw Ayeyawady United and Manaw Myay play out a 0-0 draw at the Bogyoke Aung San Stadium.

Finally, Chin United snapped a two-game losing streak and picked up only their third victory of the campaign after beating Zeyar Shwe Myay 3-2 on Saturday.

Keith Murth Nah fired Chin ahead at the Monywa Stadium after six minutes, only for Zaw Lin Tun to equalise for the hosts three minutes into the second half.

Chun Yagin then restored the visitors’ lead two minutes later, but Lin Tun was on target once again in the 58th minute to make it 2-2.

But 15 minutes from time, Murtu Nah netted his ninth goal of the campaign to put Chin back in front, which they managed to maintain to claim maximum points.
