Indonesian giants Arema Cronus sealed their place in the AFC Cup Round of 16 with a game to spare on Wednesday after beating Malaysia’s Selangor 1-0 at the Kanjuhuran Stadium.
The only goal of the game came a minute before the break when Gustavo Lopez fired home from the spot, after Shahrom Abdul Kalam had handled the ball inside the box and was shown a straight red.
With the numerical advantage, Arema were able to hold on to their lead in the second half to claim the three points, which were enough keep them second in Group F, with a now-unassailable five-point lead over third-placed Selangor.
The Indonesia Super League side will now be hoping to seal home advantage in the last-16 by finishing top of the group, although leaders Ha Noi T&T remain in pole position with a two-point advantage.
