Mitra Kukar missed the chance to reclaim the lead in the Eastern zone of the Indonesia Super League following a 1-1 draw with Persepam Madura United on Saturday.
Having been overtaken at the summit two days ago by Persela Lamongan, who defeated Persiba Balikpapan 2-0, Mitra were looking to respond at the Gelora Bangkalan but were up against an in-form opposition side that had won their last two matches.
And it was Persepam who took the lead in the 25th minute; Paraguayan striker Silvio Escobar opening the scoring with his third goal of the campaign.
However, the visitors hit back a minute after the hour mark when Anindito Wahyu Erminarno equalised but they were just unable to find a winner, leaving both sides to settle for a share of the spoils.
Over in the Western zone, Persik Kediri continued their resurgence with an emphatic 5-1 triumph over nine-man Sriwijaya at the Brawijaya Stadium.
Fresh off the back of claiming their first win of the campaign – a 2-1 victory over Persija Jakarta five days ago – Persik started brightly again on Saturday and took the lead after just four minutes through Ngon Mamoun’s opener.
Rendy Irawan then doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 37th minute, and things got from bad to worse for Sriwijaya three minutes later after Ahmad Sumardi was sent off.
Nonetheless, they did show plenty of fight after the break and even managed to pull one back on the hour mark thanks to a Asri Akbar strike, only to find themselves down to nine men in the 71st minute when Vali Khorsandipish was also issued his marching orders.
And with a significant numerical advantage, Persik edged further ahead eight minutes later when Syaiful Cahya made it 3-1, before goals in the final six minutes from Qischil Minny and Faris Aditama rounded off an impressive display.
