Home United’s six-game winning run in all competition came to an end on Sunday as they were beaten 4-2 by Albirex Niigata (S) in the S.League.
The White Swans took the lead after ten minutes when Kento Nagasaki found space down the left and played a perfect cross into the six-yard box, leaving Kazuki Sakamoto with a simple tap-in.
Three minutes before the hour mark, Albirex doubled their tally after Kazuya Okazaki chased down a hopeful long ball and nipped in ahead of Shahril Jantan to win the ball in a 50-50 challenge, before clipping the ball into the back of the unguarded net.
The hosts edged further ahead in the 62nd minute when Sakamoto grabbed his second of the evening after Nagasaki played a visionary over-the-top ball to the striker, who advanced on goal before coolly stroking a shot into the far corner.
And eight minutes later, the contest was effectively ended when Shuhei Hotta stabbed home from close range on the rebound, after Sakamoto’s bullet header had been kept out by a fine reflex save from Shahril.
Home did manage to pull one back in the 77th minute when Lee Kwan-woo was left in space on the edge of the box, and proceeded to drill a left-footed shot into the bottom corner.
And in injury-time, the former Suwon Bluewings captain further reduced the deficit with another stunning long-range strike, drilling a 25-yard effort past Kazuki Kishigami although it proved little more than a mere consolation.
