Arema Cronus moved five points clear at the top of the Western zone in the Indonesia Super League on Sunday after claiming a 1-0 win over title rivals Persija Jakarta.
Following a goalless first half at the Gelora Bung Karno, the contest was decided eight minutes from time when Gustavo Lopez struck the only goal of the game to hand the visitors all three points.
The result allowed Arema to stretch their lead over second-placed Persib Bandung out to five points, while Persija are now a further two points behind in third.
Over at the Jakabaring Stadium, Barito Putera’s four-game winning run was brought to an abrupt halt after they were beaten 4-2 by Sriwijaya.
Although Asri Akbar had fired the hosts ahead in the 19th minute, Barito Putera equalised three minutes before the half-hour mark thanks to a penalty from Syahroni, who then grabbed his second a minute later to put them in front.
However, after Cameroonian midfielder Frank Oliver Ongfiang fired Sriwijaya level four minutes into the second half, they reclaimed the lead through a Syakir Sulaiman strike in the 55th minute before Vendry Mofu added a fourth to wrap things up nine minutes from time.
In the Eastern zone, Mitra Kukar leapfrogged Persela Lamongan, Persebaya Surabaya and Persipura Jayapura to move top of the table with a 4-0 win over Persiba Balikpapan.
Mitra took the lead at the Aji Imbut Stadium courtesy of Anindito Wahyu Erminarno’s 22nd-minute opener, and their advantage was doubled three minutes later when Herman Dzumafo Epandi found the back of the net.
Two minutes after the half-hour mark, Erick Weeks Lewis got in on the act with a goal of his own, before the rout was completed in the 44th minute when Brazilian defender Reinaldo Lobo opened his account for the club.
Finally, more pressure was piled on bottom side Persijap Jepara as they fell to a 4-0 loss to Persita Tangerang at the Singa Perbangsa Stadium.
The hosts broke the deadlock after 26 minutes when Kenji Adachihara grabbed his fourth goal of the campaign, before the Japanese doubled his and his side’s tally five minutes after the break from the penalty spot.
The result was then put beyond doubt in the 67th minute when Persita added a third through Sirvi Arfani, but just for good measure, he too grabbed a second goal eight minutes from time to cap off a dominant display from Lodaya Benteng.
