Ceres-La Salle hold Rimyongsu in President’s Cup debut

Philippine outfit Ceres-La Salle got their AFC President’s Cup debut off to an impressive start after playing out a 2-2 draw with Korea DPR’s Rimyongsu in Group B at the Panaad Stadium.

Ceres, who qualified for the tournament after winning the PFF Smart National Club Championship last December, got off to a dream start when Juan Luis Guirado handed them a tenth-minute lead after cleverly firing a freekick under the wall and into the back of the net.

However, their failure to clear their lines at a corner in the 39th minute allowed the visitors to pull level; Ri Kwang-hyok pouncing on a loose ball to slot past Louie Michael Casas.

Nonetheless, the hosts reclaimed the lead four minutes after halftime when Patrick Reichelt found the back of the net, but Rimyongsu responded once more as Ri equalised in the 60th minute to earn his side a share of the spoils.

Ceres are next in action on Thursday when they play Chinese Taipei’s Tatung, while Rimyongsu lock horns with Turkmenistan club HTTU Asgabat.

In Group B’s other game on Tuesday, Asgabat moved top of the table with a 2-0 win over Tatung, courtesy of a brace from Suleyman Muhadow.
