Arema Cronus moved seven points clear in the Western zone of the Indonesia Super League on Thursday after cruising to a 5-0 win over Gresik United at the Kanjuruhan Stadium.
It took Singo Edan just two minutes to open the scoring through a Samsul Arif effort, but they were unable to doubly their tally until the 57th minute when the Indonesia international grabbed his second of the game.
But from then on, Arema really began to dominate proceedings and Brazilian midfielder added a third in the hour mark to put them firmly in control.
Ten minutes later, the contest was all but over when Samsul completed his hat-trick and notched his sixth goal of the campaign in the process, before Sunarto struck a fifth four minutes from time to cap off a commanding display from Suharno’s charges.
The result allowed Arema to stretch their lead at the top of the table to seven points after closest challengers Persib Bandung and Persija Jakarta played out a 0-0 draw at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium.
Over in the Eastern zone, Persipura Jayapura remain unbeaten but failed to move level on points with leaders Mitra Kukar after being held to a 0-0 draw by Perseru Serui at the Mandala Stadium.
Finally, Persiba Balikpapan climbed four spots up to sixth after defeating ten-man Putra Samarinda 2-1.
Persiba broke the deadlock at the Segiri Stadium courtesy of Fernando Gaston Soler’s eighth-minute opener, only for the hosts to hit back three minutes later when Ilija Spasojevic found the back of the net.
But Putra were dealt a real blow four minutes after the hour mark when they had defender Erik Setiawan sent off and the visitors made the most of their numerical advantage; Ansu Toure netting from the spot in the 83rd minute to hand them maximum points.
