Ha Noi produced a dominant display on Wednesday to book their place in the AFC Cup quarter-finals with a 5-0 Round of 16 win over Nay Pyi Taw at the Hang Day Stadium.
Hughtun Hector fired the V.League 1 giants ahead four minutes after the half-hour mark, before Hoang Vu Samson made it 2-0 on the stroke of halftime as he fired home on the rebound after Gonzalo Marronkle’s initial effort had been saved by Vanlal Hruai.
Nay Pyi Taw did look determined to hit back in the second half but as they showed more adventure, that also left gaps at the back which was exploited in the 62nd minute; Thach Bao Khanh adding a third for the hosts.
The Myanmar outfit’s hopes were all but extinguished five minutes later when Samson grabbed his second of the evening with an individual effort, before Pham Thanh Luong struck two minutes from time to complete the rout for Ha Noi.
Over at the Mong Kok Stadium, Indonesian giants Arema Cronus’ bid to book a place in the last eight was ended as they were beaten 2-0 by Hong Kong’s Kitchee.
In a blistering start to the match, the hosts took the lead after five minutes when defender Jang Kyung-jin capitalised on some slack defending to head home a freekick from Lam Ka Wai.
Just four minutes later, Lam doubled Kitchee’s tally as he unleashed a blistering effort from the edge of the box that sailed into the top corner, which ultimately proved enough for the win.
