Indonesia Super League Western zone leaders Arema Cronus moved ten points clear at the top of the table on Sunday after recording a 1-0 win over Persija Jakarta.
For most of the game at the Kanjuhuran Stadium, it looked as though a draw was on the cards as both sides struggled to find the breakthrough.
But with six minutes left on the clock, Sunarto – who came on as a second-half substitute for Arif Suyono – found the back of the net to hand the hosts all three points.
With the win, Arema surged further ahead of second-placed Persib Bandung, who will be looking to reduce the deficit when they take on Pelita Bandung Raya on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Gresik United ended an eight-game winless streak by beating Semen Padang 1-0 at the Tridarma Stadium – only their second victory of the campaign.
Gresik took the lead after ten minutes when Paraguayan forward Pedro Velazquez opened his account for the season, which ultimately proved enough for the win.
In the Eastern zone, bottom side Persiba Bantul earned a much-needed point after holding Perseru Serui to a 1-1 draw at the Mandala Stadium.
Following a goalless first half, the hosts had taken the lead seven minutes after the break thanks to Franklin Rumbiak’s opener.
But a minute after the hour mark, Ezequiel Gonzalez equalised to earn Persiba a share of the spoils.
