Tampines make Home pay the penalty at the death

Tampines Rovers equalised with a 93rd-minute penalty to force a 2-2 draw with Home United in the S.League on Sunday.

Following a goalless first half at the Bishan Stadium, the Stags broke the deadlock eight minutes into the second half when the opposition defence failed to deal with a corner from Shahdan Sulaiman, allowing Abdil Qaiyyim to stab the ball home from six yards out.

But in the 75th minute, Home equalised after Sirina Camara’s swung in a freekick from the right and picked out Kwon Da-kyung, who met it with a sweetly-struck volley into the bottom corner.

Eight minutes later, the hosts edged ahead and looked set to pick up all three points thanks to a wonder strike from Qiu Li; the Singapore international latching onto Camara’s diagonal pass and skipping inside Jufri Taha before lashing an unstoppable shot past a hapless Hyrulnizam Juma’at.

But in injury-time, Tampines were controversially awarded a spot-kick after Bruno Castanheira was penalised for handball despite claims he had been shoved in mid-air by an opponent, allowing Fahrudin Mustafic to step up and coolly fire home the equaliser from 12 yards.

The result leaves the Stags third on the table and nine points behind leaders DPMM FC, while Home are fourth and a further point behind.
