Semen Padang down leaders Arema; Mitra go top in the East

Arema Cronus fell to their second defeat of the 2014 Indonesia Super League season after losing 2-1 to Western zone rivals Semen Padang on Wednesday evening.

Singo Edan, who had claimed an impressive 30 points from their opening 11 games, were expected to continue their winning ways at the Kanjuruhan Stadium but fell behind in the 43rd minute when Osas Saha netted his first goal since joining Semen Padang.

A minute after the hour mark, Osas struck again to double the visitors’ lead and although Arema pulled one back five minutes from time through a Johan Alfarizi effort, they were just unable to find the equaliser and fell to defeat for the first time in six league outings.

Nonetheless, they remain top of the table with a ten-point lead over second-placed Persib Bandung, while Kabau Sirah are now up to third and a further point behind.

Elsewhere in the Western zone, Sriwijaya beat Persik Kediri 2-0 at the Gelora Sriwijaya to move up to fifth place.

Vendry Mofue opened the scoring after ten minutes to send the Andalas Eagle on their way, before Syakir Sulaiman added a second nine minute later to make sure of the win.

Over in the Eastern zone, Mitra Kukar tentatively moved top after claiming a 3-1 triumph over Persepam Madura United at the Aji Imbut Stadium.

Although Zulham Zamrun had fired the hosts ahead from the spot in the 24th minute, Denny Rumba netted a minute before halftime to level the scores for Persepam.

But nine minutes from time, Mitra reclaimed the lead courtesy of Erick Weeks Lewis’ fifth goal of the campaign, before Jajang Mulyana struck in the second minute of injury-time to wrap up the three points.

Finally, Persiram Raja Ampat went a sixth match without victory following a 1-1 draw with Perseru Serui at the Mandala Stadium.

It could have been worse for Persiram as Perseru had taken a 65th-minute lead thanks to Arthur Barrios Bonai’s opener, but Georges Parfait Mbida-Messi converted a penalty seven minutes before fulltime to leave both sides having to settle for a share of the spoils.
