Mitra Kukar missed the chance to go top of the Eastern zone in the Indonesia Super League on Saturday after falling to a shock 2-1 loss to Putra Samarinda.
Mitra appeared to be on track to claiming all three points at the Segiri Stadium after Anindito Wahyu Erminarno fired them ahead after just five minutes, but Sultan Samma equalised for the hosts seven minutes into the second half.
And in the 70th minute, Ilija Spasojevic netted what proved to be the winner to condemn the visitors to defeat, although the game did end on an ugly note as both sides finished with ten men after red cards were shown to Erik Setiawan and Erick Weeks Lewis in injury-time.
The result leaves Mitra second on the table and a point behind leaders Persipura Jayapura, while Putra Samarinda climbed three spots up to sixth.
In the Western zone, Sriwijaya’s two-game winning streak came to a halt as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Persita Tangerang at the Singa Perbangsa Stadium.
The hosts had taken the lead after just eight minutes when Anis Nabar found the back of the net, but Luis Duran struck in the 47th minute to earn Persita a share of the spoils.
