Persipura Jayapura tentatively moved three points clear at the top of the Indonesia Super League Eastern znoe on Wednesday after claiming a 2-1 win over Perseru Serui.
Yohanes Pahabol got Persipura on their way at the Mandala Stadium when he netted his first league goal of the season in the 32nd minute, but the visitors managed to pull level six minutes after the hour mark through a Seme Pattrick strike.
But with 12 minutes remaining, Izaac Wanggai popped up and scored what ultimately proved to be the winner to hand the Black Pearl maximum points.
The win did allow Persipura to claim the lead in the Eastern zone, although second-placed Mitra Kukar are just three points behind and now have two games in hand.
Over in the Western zone, Persik Kediri claimed a much-needed victory – only their fourth of the campaign – after cruising to a 4-0 triumph over bottom side Persijap Jepara at the Brawijaya Stadium.
After Ngon Mamoun had fired the hosts ahead from the penalty spot in the 40th minute, Qischil Minny netted a minute after the restart to make it 2-0.
The contest was effectively ended in the 76th minute when Udo Fortune added a third for Persik, before the visitors’ dreadful evening was compounded eight minutes later when Evaldo Silva put the ball into his own net to round off the scoring for their opponents.
