Persebaya Surabaya kept the pressure on the Eastern zone leaders in the Indonesia Super League on Sunday after claiming a 4-0 win over Persiba Balikpapan.
Greg Nwokolo fired Persebaya ahead at the Gelora Bung Tomo after 17 minutes, before Emmanuel Kenmogne doubled their lead nine nine minutes after halftime.
Nwokolo then netted again to make it 3-0 in the 64th minute, and any hopes Persiba had of mounting a late fightback were effectively ended when Cameroonian midfielder Patrice Nzekou was sent off two minutes later.
But the evening belonged to Nwokolo and he completed his hat-trick in the 70th minute to cap off a fine display from him and his side.
The emphatic win saw Persebaya move two points behind joint leaders Mitra Kukar and Persipura Jayapura, with the former currently on top due to their superior goal difference.
Over in the Western zone, Persija Jakarta’s two-game winning run was brought to a halt as they fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Sriwijaya at the Jakabaring Stadium.
After Lancine Kone had fired Sriwijaya into a 19th-minute lead, the Ivorian scored once more a minute after the half-hour mark to put them in a commanding position at the break.
Persija did manage to pull one back in the 57th minute thanks to Ramdani Lestaluhu’s sixth goal of the campaign, but Anis Nabar struck nine minutes later to wrap up the three points for the hosts.
