Loyola’s UFL title hopes ended by Stallion defeat

Loyola Meralco Sparks’ bid to win the United Football League title came to an end on Tuesday evening after they were beaten 3-1 by Stallion FC.

Needing a win to keep alive any hopes they had of catching runaway leaders Global, things initially went according to plan for the Sparks as James Younghusband headed home a Lee Joo-young corner to hand them the lead after 12 minutes.

But three minutes after the break, Junior Dame Gaye equalised for the defending champions and they took the lead nine minutes later after Belinga Blanchard found the back of the net.

And ten minutes from time, Masood Shadideh added a third for Stallion to wrap up the three points and end Loyola’s title dreams for another season.

The result also meant that Kaya are the only remaining team that stand a chance of pipping Global to the title, although Leigh Manson’s side can wrap up the crown with a win over Pachanga Diliman on Thursday.

In Tuesday’s earlier game, Green Archers United recorded a 1-0 win over Team Socceroo courtesy of Reymark Fernandez’s 27th-minute winner.
