Global wrapped up the 2014 United Football League title with three games to spare on Thursday after cruising to a 7-2 win over Pachanga Diliman at the Emperador Stadium.
Izzeldin Elhabbib got them on their way in the 22nd minute when he latched onto Jerry Barbaso’s perfectly-weighted pass before finishing into the back of the net, before Angel Guirado doubled their lead three minutes after the half-hour mark with a lovely lob from the edge of the box.
Two minutes later, Leigh Manson’s charges were fully in control of the match as Milad Behgandom linked up well with Elhabbib before slotting past Kim Versales for his side’s third, but Pachanga did manage to pull one back a minute after the break through a David Franz Fornea strike.
Jason De Jong then broke free and cut the ball back to leave Guirado with a simple finish for his second of the evening as Global restored their three-goal cushion, but their opponents were able to hit back once more as Nate Burkey notched his tenth goal of the campaign seven minutes after the hour mark.
Still, Global always looked capable of taking their game up another level and Jeffrey Christiaens made it 5-2 in the 72nd minute with a trademark freekick, before Behgandom struck his second from the spot after having been brought down inside the box.
And nine minutes from time, Elhabbib raced through after beating the offside trap and fired past Versales to round off the scoring and wrap up a second league crown in three years for his side.
In Thursday’s earlier game, second-placed Kaya briefly kept the title race alive with a 3-0 victory over already-relegated Pasargad.
Following a goalless first half, Philippines international OJ Porteria fired his side in front in the 67th minute, before adding a second four minutes later.
And in injury-time, the win was secured as Janrick Soriano made it 3-0 although it ultimately proved futile given Global’s triumph just a couple of hours later.
