Global’s coronation as United Football League champions began in full swing on Saturday as they claimed a 7-0 win over Team Socceroo at the Emperador Stadium.
Although they struggled to find a way past their opponents in the opening 45, Global were handed a real boost just before halftime when Team Socceroo were reduced to ten men after Stanley Ankrah was sent off.
And it took Leigh Manson’s charges just a minute after halftime to edge ahead courtesy of Curt Dizon’s opener, before Mark Hartmann made it 2-0 from the penalty spot two minutes later.
Izzeldin Elhabbib then converted Daisuke Sato’s freekick from close range to get in on the act in the 50th minute, and turned provider six minutes later as he initiated a sweeping counterattack that was finished off by Napoleon Bustillo.
But despite their healthy lead, Global showed no signs of letting up and Bustillo headed home a corner two minutes after the hour mark, before Elhabbib also doubled his tally from another set-piece in the 75th minute.
A minute later, Elhabbib completed his hat-trick to round off an emphatic win for Global as they racked up their 100th goal for the campaign, with two games still to play.
