KBZ the big movers as Yadanarbon suffer first loss

Kanbawza were the big winners in the Myanmar National League at the weekend after handing leaders Yadanarbon their first defeat of the season.

Having gone unbeaten in their first 11 games of the campaign, many were expecting Yadanarbon to continue that run at the Bahtoo Stadium on Sunday.

But following a goalless first half, Ken Matsumoto found the back of the net two minutes before the hour mark to hand KBZ all three points.

The result also saw Kanbawza break into the top three after the weekend’s action saw all the top sides suffer shock defeats.

Yangon United drop to fifth on the table after suffering a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Ayeyawady United on Saturday, despite taking the lead twice at the Yangon United Sports Complex.

After Cesar had handed the hosts a 21st minute lead, Ayeyawady equalised five minutes before halftime courtesy of a Naing Lin Oo strike.

Cesar netted once more a minute before the hour mark to restore Yangon’s advantage but with ten minutes remaining Min Min Thu fired the visitors level once more, before Nanda Lin Kyaw Chit scored in the 90th minute to complete a remarkable comeback.

Nay Pyi Taw also dropped one spot to fourth after falling to a 2-1 loss to Manaw Myay at the Thuwunna Stadium on Saturday.

Although the designated hosts had edged ahead in the 25th minute when Molo Hilaire Assale scored, Italian striker Michele Di Piedi equalised for Nay Pyi Taw just four minutes later.

However, with four minutes remaining, Ibrahim Ouattara popped up with the winner to hand Manaw Myay all three points and condemn their opponents to their third straight defeat.

Saturday’s final game saw bottom side GFA avoid defeat for the second game in a row after holding Zeyar Shwe Myay to a 2-2 draw at the Bogyoke Aung San Stadium.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Zwekapin United played out a 0-0 draw against Southern Myanmar, while second-placed Magway were stunned 3-2 by Chin United.
