FELDA United continued their bid for promotion from the Malaysia Premier League by claiming a 1-0 win over newly-crowned champions PDRM on Monday evening.
PDRM, who had not been beaten in the league all season long prior to the clash, entered the game at the Petaling Jaya Stadium on a high after sealing their place in the Super League next season with last Friday’s 4-1 win over PBAPP.
But on Monday, they were finally handed their first defeat at the 20th time of asking as the visitors went on to claim all three points courtesy of Zah Rahan Krangar’s 42nd-minute winner.
The result means FELDA remain in pole position to claim the second promotion berth as they remain two points ahead of third-placed Penang, who kept pace with a 2-1 victory over Negeri Sembilan at the Bandaraya Stadium.
The Panthers had initially edged ahead in the 20th minute thanks to Lee Kil-hoon’s opener, only for the visitors to hit back nine minutes later when Kim Jin-ryong netted the equaliser.
However, a minute after the half-hour mark, Lee claimed his second of the game which ultimately proved enough to hand Penang maximum points.
Kedah remain fourth on the table and on course to qualify for the Malaysia Cup despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Johor Darul Ta’zim II at the Pasir Gudang Corporation Stadium.
Hijau-Kuning were headed for victory when Farhan Roslan fired them in front after just four minutes, but Zaquan Adha notched his first goal of the campaign in the 57th minute to earn JDT II a share of the spoils.
Over at the UiTM Stadium, bottom side PBAPP avoided defeat for only the fifth time this season after coming from two goals down to hold UiTM FC to a 2-2 draw.
The hosts were initially cruising after Obi Ikechukwu broke the deadlock on the stroke of halftime, before Razren Jesni doubled their lead a minute before the hour mark.
Nonetheless, Kaye Edrisar pulled one back for the visitors from the spot in the 70th minute, and was on target again nine minutes from time after his side had been awarded another penalty to force the draw.
Elsewhere, SPA FC produced an impressive display to beat Sabah 2-0 at the Hang Jebat Stadium, with goals coming in the first half from Khairul Izwan Khalid and Eddy Viator.
In Monday’s final game, Perlis’ relegation to the FAM League was confirmed following a 2-2 draw against DRB-Hicom at the Tuanku Syed Putra Stadium.
The hosts had got off to a dream start when Dao Bakary fired them in front after just four minutes, only for Stanley Ogunboye Iyanu to equalise in the 18th minute.
Bakary then netted again from the spot in the 24th minute but Arif Baseri fired DRB-Hicom level once more five minutes later, which ultimately proved enough for the draw to send Perlis down.
