Ha Noi T&T were denied maximum points by Song Lam Nghe An for the second consecutive game after both sides played out a 1-1 draw at the Vinh Stadium on Saturday.
Having needed a 90th-minute equaliser to force a 2-2 stalemate against the same opponents last week, it looked as though Ha Noi were going to better that result after taking the lead in the 14th minute through Hoang Vu Samson’s opener.
But just when it looked like they had done enough for the win, Vietnam international Le Cong Vinh struck two minutes from time to earn SLNA a share of the spoils.
Meanwhile, third-placed Thanh Hoa fell to a shock 2-0 loss to Dong Tam Long An, who racked up only their fourth win of the campaign in the process.
It took Long An just four minutes to open the scoring at the Long An Stadium when Phan Van Tai Em found the back of the net, but they were dealt a real blow just before halftime when Shim Un-seob was sent off for a second bookable offence.
However, Thanh Hoa struggled to find an equaliser and also had Dinh Van Ta dismissed in the 87th minute, before Zdravko Dragicevic netted deep into injury-time to wrap up the win for the hosts.
Finally, SHB Da Nang remain in fourth but are now just six points off the pace after coming from behind to beat Hai Phong 2-1 at the Chi Lang Stadium.
Although Hoang Dinh Tung had handed Hai Phong a 17th-minute lead, the hosts hit back three minutes before halftime when Jhonatan Mariano Bernardo found the equaliser.
And two minutes from the end, Adrian Valentic stepped up after Da Nang had been awarded a penalty and coolly converted to hand his side maximum points.
