Binh Duong wrap up V.League title after Ha Noi slip up

Becamex Binh Duong were crowned V.League 1 champions on Sunday with a game to spare after claiming a 3-1 win over Dong Tam Long An at the Long An Stadium.

The visitors got off to a dream start when Dang Van Thanh fired them ahead inside the opening minute, before Abass Cheikh Dieng doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark.

Dieng then grabbed his second of the evening to all but seal the victory, although Ganiyu Oseni did net a consolation for Long An on the stroke of halftime.

The result was also enough to hand Binh Duong their third league crown after they claimed an unassaible four-point lead at the top of the table, owing to second-placed Ha Noi T&T’s 2-1 defeat to SHB Da Nang.

Things were initially going well for the defending champions at the Chi Lang Stadium as Hughtun Hector handed them the lead in the 18th minute, only for Matias Zbrun to equalise for the hosts in the 57th minute.

And three minutes later, Nguyen Vu Phong scored what proved to be the winner for Da Nang to end their opponents’ hopes of winning back-to-back titles.

At the bottom end of the table, Hung Vuong An Giang will have to fight to preserve their top-flight status through the promotion-relegation playoffs after a 1-0 loss to Thanh Hoa condemned them to a bottom-place finish.

The pivotal moment of the clash arrived in the 39th minute as Slovenian midfielder Nastja Ceh notched his sixth goal of the campaign to hand his side maximum points.

Elsewhere, Hai Phong ended a two-game winless streak after coming from behind to beat Than Quang Ninh 2-1 at the Lach Tray Stadium.

Quang Ninh had initially broken the deadlock through Uche Iheruome’s 16th-minute opener, but Justice Majabvi struck four minutes later to ensure both sides went in level at the break.

With five minutes remaining, Hai Phong were handed a golden opportunity to claim the three points after being awarded a penalty, which Nguyen Quang Hai made no mistake in converting.

Finally, Dinh Thanh Trung struck the only goal of the game in the 16th minute to help QNK Quang Nam defeat Dong Nai 1-0 at the Tam Ky Stadium, while Song Lam Nghe An and Hoang Anh Gia Lai played out a 0-0 draw at the Vinh Stadium.
