Persipura close in at the top after Mitra held by Persela

Persipura Jayapura are now one point off the top of the Indonesia Super League Eastern zone after recording a 2-0 win over Putra Samarinda on Thursday afternoon.

Following a goalless first half at the Mandala Stadium, the deadlock was finally broken in the 79th minute when Boaz Solossa struck to give the hosts the lead.

And just a minute later, Yohanes Pahabol added a second to wrap up the three points for the Black Pearls.

The result also meant that Persipura are now just a point behind Mitra Kukar, after the leaders were held to a 1-1 draw by Persela Lamongan at the Surajaya Stadium on Friday evening.

Things could have been worse for Si Naga Mekes as the hosts edged ahead through Srdan Lopicic’s 26th-minute opener.

However, Zulham Zamrun came to his side’s rescue and his struck 14 minutes from time to earn Mitra a share of the spoils.

Friday’s other game saw bottom side Persiba Bantul’s miserable run continue as they fell to a 3-1 loss to PSM Makassar at the Sultan Agung Stadium.

After Syamsul Chaeruddin had fired PSM ahead in the 54th minute, Michael Baird scored from a penalty nine minutes later to double their advantage.

Ten minutes from time, the contest was effectively over after Muhammad Rachmat added a third for the visitors, although Persiba did manage a consolation when Emile Mbamba netted from the spot in the 87th minute.
