Hung Vuong An Giang’s relegation from the V.League 1 was confirmed on Saturday as they were beaten 3-0 by XSKT Can Tho in the playoffs.
Having finished bottom of the table – and nine points behind 11th-placed Dong Tam Long An – following the conclusion of the regular season, An Giang were left to battle for survival against Can Tho.
Can Tho had earned the right to challenge for a spot in the top flight after finishing third in V.League 2 behind champions TDCS Dong Thap and Sanna Khanh Hoa, who both earned automatic promotion.
And it was them who drew first blood in the 28th minute when Hoang Hai Duong headed home the opener, before Souleymane Diabate made it 2-0 on the hour mark after he applied the finishing touches to a counterattack.
Eight minutes later, the contest was over when Belibi Celestin Didier scored from the penalty spot after he had been fouled inside the box, wrapping up the win and sealing promotion to V.League 1 for Can Tho in the process.
