Western zone leaders Arema Cronus dropped points in the Indonesia Super League on Monday after being held to a 1-1 draw by Persita Tangerang at the Kanjuruhan Stadium.
The hosts had wasted an excellent chance to break the deadlock on the stroke of halftime after being awarded a penalty; Gustavo Lopez firing wide with Yogi Triana rooted to the spot.
However, the Argentine playmaker did make amends in the 72nd minute when he whipped a pinpoint corner onto the head of Thierry Gathuessi, who made no mistake in glancing the ball in off the bar.
But just when it looked as though they had done enough for the three points; Persita hit back nine minutes from time when Luis Duran climbed highest to meet Ade Jantra Lukmana’s corner and steered his header past Kurnia Meiga Hermansyah into the far corner.
Still, the win did take Arema three points clear of second-placed Semen Padang and they still have a game in hand over their challengers.
Over in the Eastern zone, PSM Makassar climbed four spots up to fifth with a 1-0 win over Persepam Madura United.
The only goal of the game arrived in the 18th minute when Indonesia international Rasyid Bakri found the back of the net to hand his side their third consecutive victory.
In Sunday’s only game, there was no separating Barito Putera and Gresik United in the Western zone as both sides played out a 0-0 draw at the Demang Lehman Stadium.
