Pelita Bandung Raya claimed their first win in three matches in the Indonesia Super League on Wednesday after beating Persik Kediri 3-2 at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium.
It was Persik who took the lead after seven minutes when a right-wing cross fell to Faris Aditama unmarked inside the area; the midfielder sending a lovely first-time lob in over the head of Deniss Romanovs.
But three minutes later, the hosts equalised when Agus Indra Kurniawan’s fierce cross from the left was met by Talaohu Musafri with a bullet header into the back of the net.
Five minutes before the halftime, they edged ahead after an excellent delivery from a corner by Agus Indra saw him find Chairul Rifan, who had been left unattended inside the box and duly glanced a header into the far corner.
Things got even better for Pelita in the 50th minute when they were gifted a third goal after opposition keeper Teddy Heri Setiawan inexplicably raced off his line but missed an attempted catch, allowing Dias Angga Putra’s searching ball into the box to sail all the way in.
The visitors did manage to pull one back a minute from time when Ngon Mamoun coolly fired his shot past Romanovs into the bottom corner from 12 yards, after his side had been awarded a penalty.
Nonetheless, any hopes they had of finding a late equaliser were effectively ended in injury-time when Mamoun was sent off for a second bookable offence, allowing their opponents to hold out and claim maximum points.
The win allowed Pelita to move four points behind fourth-placed Persija Jakarta in the Western zone, as they look to maintain their bid to qualify for the second round.
Over at the Tridarma Stadium, Gresik United recorded only their third win of the campaign after defeating Sriwijaya 3-0.
Otavio Dutra handed the hosts the lead after 14 minutes, before Shohei Matsunaga doubled their advantage four minutes after the half-hour mark.
And seven minutes before the break, the contest was effectively over after Pedro Velazquez added a third for Gresik from the penalty spot to seal the victory.
