Courts Young Lions completed the double over Hougang United in the S.League on Saturday evening after claiming a shock 2-1 win at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
The hosts took the lead in the 32nd minute when opposition keeper Fadhil Salim was unable to handle Sherif El-Masri’s 30-yard freekick, allowing the ball to cross the line for the opener.
But on the hour mark, the Cheetahs equalised after Geison Moura met a Fazli Jaffar cross and clinically sent a header into the back of the net.
Nonetheless, it was the Young Lions who went on to claim all three points ten minutes later when Sahil Suhaimi ran onto Iqbal Hussain’s through-ball and rounded Fadhil before slotting the winner into the unguarded net.
The win followed a 3-0 triumph by the Young Lions at the Hougang Stadium earlier this season, although they remain second from bottom but are now just three points behind tenth-placed Woodlands Wellington.
Meanwhile, Hougang need a point from their remaining two matches of the second round to guarantee a top-half finish, which would be their best display in the league in the club’s history.
