Bangkok Glass advanced to the final of the Thai FA Cup for the second year running after beating Chiangrai United on penalties following a 1-1 draw in Saturday’s semi-final.
It was the Glass Rabbits who took the lead at the Rajamangala Stadium when Lazarus Kaimbi netted in the 63rd minute, only for Leandro Assumpcao to equalise for Chiangrai with nine minutes remaining.
With neither side able to find a winner in the remainder of the 90 minutes, the game then proceeded to extra-time and following another goalless half-hour, it was then down to penalties to decide the victor.
In the end, it was Bangkok Glass who kept their nerve as they prevailed 5-4 in the shootout to book their place in the final and keep alive their hopes of bettering last year’s performance, when they lost 3-1 to Buriram United.
Standing between them and silverware on this occasion are Chonburi¸who advanced from the last four on Sunday after beating Suphanburi 1-0 at the Rajamangala Stadium.
The winner arrived a minute after the hour mark when Juliano Mineiro found the back of the net to win it for the Sharks, and keep alive their hopes of winning the FA Cup for the second time following their maiden triumph in 2010.
