Persib Bandung got off to a winning start in the second round of the Indonesia Super League season after beating Pelita Bandung Raya 1-0 in Group B.
In a keenly-contested encounter at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, the visitors were dealt a real blow two minutes before halftime when they had Hermawan sent off for a second bookable offence.
And in the 54th minute, Persib made their numerical advantage count as Firman Utina’s low corner was missed by a sea of players inside the six-yard box and was allowed to bounce all the way to the far post, where Achmad Jufriyanto made no mistake in netting from close range to win it for his side.
In Monday’s other game, Mitra Kukar struck late to hold Persebaya Surabaya to a 1-1 draw at the Gelora Bung Tomo.
The hosts had taken the lead on the half-hour mark through an Onorionde Kughegbe John strike, but Herman Dzumafo Epandi netted his tenth goal of the campaign with six minutes remaining to earn Mitra a share of the spoils.
