Geylang International ended Harimau Muda’s three-game unbeaten run in the S.League on Wednesday after recording a 2-1 win at the Pasir Gudang Corporation Stadium.
Things were initially looking good for the Young Tigers as they took the lead after 13 minutes, when Syafwan Syahlan nodded home a corner for his second goal of the campaign.
However, it took the visitors less than a minute to respond through a fine individual effort by Hafiz Nor, who made his way past two defenders before calmly slotting into the bottom corner.
The Eagles then edged ahead five minutes after the hour mark when Japanese centre-back Kento Fukuda popped up at the other end to head home a cross from Joaquin Lopez.
And two minutes from time, Harimau Muda’s hopes of rescuing a point were extinguished when Nor Azam Azih was shown a straight red, for lunging into Siddiq Durimi after the Geylang keeper had already gathered possession.
Over at the Queenstown Stadium, Tanjong Pagar United recorded their second win in a row after beating Woodlands Wellington 1-0.
Monsef Zerka grabbed what proved to be the winner when he found the back of the net in the 57th minute, before the Rams’ miserable evening was summed up on the hour mark when captain Shahril Alias was sent off for a second bookable offence.
