Semen Padang moved top of Group A in the second phase of the Indonesia Super League after recording a 2-1 win over Persela Lamongan on Tuesday.
Kabau Sirah took the lead at the Surajaya Stadium through Osas Saha’s opener in the 16th minute, only for Arif Ariyanto to fire Persela level two minutes after the hour mark.
But with four minutes remaining, substitute Airlangga Sutjipto popped up to score the winner and hand the visitors a valuable win.
The victory allowed Semen Padang to claim the lead in their group after Arema Cronus were beaten 2-1 by Persipura Jayapura in an ill-tempered clash at the Mandala Stadium.
Crisitna Gonzales had fired the visitors ahead in the 26th minute when he picked out the far corner with a left-footed shot from the edge of the box, after Gustavo Lopez’s cross had been brilliantly flicked into his path by Beto.
However, Persipura equalised six minutes before halftime after Ruben Sanadi raced onto Boaz Solossa’s visionary through-ball and drilled in a low cross that squirmed under Kurnia Meiga, leaving Ian Kabes with an easy tap-in at the far post.
Nonetheless, the game was then marred by ugly scenes which started after Sanadi exchanged blows with Arema winger Dendi Santoso in the 85th minute.
Both were ultimately handed their marching orders although the game had to be temporarily halted as an all-out melee threatened to break out; Meiga even being choked by a Persipura official at one point.
The game did eventually resume and in the fourth minute of injury-time, it was the hosts who claimed victory after Robertino Pugliara found space inside the box and curled away a shot that took a wicked deflection off Victor Igbonefo before looping into the top corner.
Over in Group B, Pelita Bandung Raya recorded their first win of the campaign after beating Mitra Kukar 1-0 at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium.
Following a goalless first half, the winner arrived in the 74th minute when Bambang Pamungkas beat Reinaldo Lobo in an aerial challenge and raced through on goal, before keeping his cool to slot past Dian Agus Prasetyo.
