Albirex keep alive S.League title hopes with Home win

Albirex Niigata (S) remain in with a chance of winning the S.League after claiming a 2-1 win over Home United at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Friday evening.

It took the White Swans just nine minutes to break the deadlock after Kento Nagasaki pounced on a costly slip by Noh Rahman to race through on goal, before skipping inside Kwon Da-kyung and firing into the bottom corner.

However, the Protectors responded two minutes later when Lee Kwan-woo produced a brilliant first-time volley from the edge of the box to beat Kenjiro Ogino, after Sirina Camara’s cross had been cleared straight out to him.

But in the 31st minute, Albirex reclaimed the lead as Nagasaki turned provider; playing an incisive square pass for Kazuki Sakamoto to latch onto and slot past Shahril Jantan.

Although Home did show greater endeavour in the second half, they were just unable to carve out a real opening as their opponents held out for maximum points.

The win means Albirex still have a chance of catching leaders Warriors FC, while second-placed DPMM FC remain the other team remaining that has a shot of being crowned champions.

Albirex Niigata (S): Kenjiro Ogino, Taiyo Nishida, Kento Fujihara, Norihiro Kawakami, Itsuki Yamada, Shuhei Hotta, Koki Akasaka (Kazuya Okazaki 57’), Keisuke Ota, Kento Nagasaki, Kosuke Matsuda, Kazuki Sakamoto.

Home United: Shahril Jantan, Masrezwan Masturi, Noh Rahman, Kwon Da-kyung, Juma’at Jantan, Yasir Hanapi (Ahmed Fahmie 80’), Lee Kwan-woo, Fazli Ayob (Indra Sahdan Daud 46’), Bruno Castanheira (Fazrul Nawaz 46’), Sirina Camara, Song In-young.
