Albirex Niigata (S) remain in with a chance of winning the S.League after claiming a 2-1 win over Home United at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Friday evening.
It took the White Swans just nine minutes to break the deadlock after Kento Nagasaki pounced on a costly slip by Noh Rahman to race through on goal, before skipping inside Kwon Da-kyung and firing into the bottom corner.
However, the Protectors responded two minutes later when Lee Kwan-woo produced a brilliant first-time volley from the edge of the box to beat Kenjiro Ogino, after Sirina Camara’s cross had been cleared straight out to him.
But in the 31st minute, Albirex reclaimed the lead as Nagasaki turned provider; playing an incisive square pass for Kazuki Sakamoto to latch onto and slot past Shahril Jantan.
Although Home did show greater endeavour in the second half, they were just unable to carve out a real opening as their opponents held out for maximum points.
The win means Albirex still have a chance of catching leaders Warriors FC, while second-placed DPMM FC remain the other team remaining that has a shot of being crowned champions.
