Bangkok Glass down Chonburi to win maiden Thai FA Cup

Bangkok Glass won the Thai FA Cup for the first time in their history on Sunday evening after beating Chonburi 1-0 in the final.

Following a goalless first half at the Supachalasai Stadium, the breakthrough arrived ten minutes from time when Namibia international Lazarus Kaimbi found the back of the net to hand the Glass Rabbits the win.

However, Anurak Srikerd’s charges also had goalkeeper Narit Taweekul to thank as he put in an assured display at the back, which included a fine save to keep out an excellent attempt by Adul Lahso midway through the first half.

By winning the FA Cup, Bangkok Glass also booked their place in continental competition for 2015, although it is likely they will have to qualify for the AFC Champions League through the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Chonburi will be left wondering what might have been as they missed the chance to win silverware for the second time in recent weeks, after relinquishing their lead in the Thai Premier League and being ultimately pipped to the title by Buriram United.

Chonburi: Sinthaweechai Hathairattanakool, Niweat Siriwong, Yuki Bamba, Suttinun Phuk-hom, Korakod Wiriyaudomsiri, Adul Lahso, Anderson dos Santos, Chakrit Buathong, Juliano Mineiro, Natthaphong Samana, Pipob On-mo (Thiago Cunha 63’).

Bangkok Glass: Narit Taweekul, Wasan Homsaen, Pravinwat Boonyong, Teruyuki Moniwa, Suwannapat Kingkkaew, Jetsadakorn Hemdaeng (Suphasek Kaikaew 74’), Peerapong Pichitchotirat, Darko Tasevski, Phuritad Jarikanon, Lazarus Kaimbi, Blaze Ilijoski (Goshi Okubo 66’).
