Terengganu’s four foreigner slots for the 2015 Malaysia Super League season have been filled up after the club confirmed the signings of Paulo Rangel and Hassan Chaito.
The Turtles confirmed on Wednesday that Brazilian hitman Rangel had signed for the next two years, while attacking midfielder Hassan had put pen to paper on a one-year deal.
“With the presence of Rangel and Hassan, Terengganu have sealed the services of our four import players to play in the Super League next season,” said Terengganu Football Association (PBSNT) secretary Arpin Deraman, according to Bernama.
“We have also promoted four players from our President’s Cup team to the senior squad.”
Rangel first arrived in Malaysia when he signed for Perak on loan from Thai giants Muangthong United midway through 2013 before moving to Selangor at the start of this season, where he went on to become the top scorer in the Super League with 16 goals, five more than his closest competitor Luciano Figueroa of Johor Darul Ta’zim.
He was initially expected to extend his stay with the Red Giants but he got into trouble with the management earlier this month due to his claims over unpaid wages, paving the way for a departure from the Shah Alam Stadium.
He will be joined at Terengganu by Lebanon international Hassan, a 25-year-old who has netted thrice in 18 caps for his national team.
Terengganu’s other two foreigners are 22-year-old Cameroonian centre-back Vincent Bikana, who has been at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium since 2013, as well as Argentine playmaker Gustavo Lopez, who recently completed a move from Indonesian outfit Arema Cronus.
Arpin also confirmed a majority of their local contingent have been retained for next season, including established names like Abdul Manaf Mamat, Zubir Azmi, Ashaari Shamsuddin and Ismail Faruqi Asha’ri.
