Loyola Meralco Sparks maintained their 100 per cent record in the 2015 United Football League season after cruising to a 4-0 victory over Pachanga Diliman on Sunday.
It took the Sparks just three minutes to take the lead through Tahj Minniecon’s opener, and the Australian then turned provider on the half-hour mark when his precise cross was headed home by captain James Younghusband.
Graham Caygill then made it 3-0 two minutes into the second half when he converted after finding himself in a one-on-one situation, before Younghusband wrapped up the win with his second of the evening from the penalty spot – after Anthony Putrus-Schnell had been brought down inside the area.
The win sees Loyola climb up to third on the table and level with second-placed Kaya on nine points, one behind leaders Global, who have played a game more.
In Sunday’s earlier game, Green Archers United notched their first win of the campaign at the third time of asking after beating Philippine Army GTI 3-0.
Robert Canedo broke the deadlock for the Archers in the fifth minute when he raced onto a through-ball and made no mistake in finding the back of the net.
However, it was not until the 81st minute that they put the contest to bed when Daniel Del Rio capitalised on an error by the opposition keeper and was left with a simple tap-in, before he added another with an emphatic finish two minutes before fulltime.
