Defending champions Warriors FC opened their 2015 S.League campaign with a win after beating Balestier Khalsa 1-0 at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Sunday.
The only goal of the game arrived in the 28th minute when Nicolas Velez found space down the left and ran at the heart of the Tigers defence, before expertly placing his shot past Zaiful Nizam in at the near post.
Warriors did have a number of chances to add to their tally but were subsequently unable to find a way past Zaiful, who made a series of fine stops to deny Hafiz Rahim, Velez and Miroslav Pejic.
Nonetheless, Balestier will also feel unlucky that they did not leave the game with at least a point, after both Miroslav Kristic and Tarik Cmajcanin were denied by the woodwork.
In Sunday’s other game, DPMM FC were in dominant form as they claimed a 3-1 win over Harimau Muda at the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.
New Brazilian signing Rafael Ramazotti notched his first goal for the club with the opener after 24 minutes, before doubling his tally five minutes before the interval.
Ramazotti then completed his hat-trick in the 53rd minute to suggest he could be one to watch in the coming campaign, although the visitors did manage a consolation in the final minute through a Ridzuan Abdunloh effort.
