Ceres are the only team left with a perfect record in the United Football League after ending Kaya’s run of four straight wins on Saturday with a 2-1 win at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Ceres broke the deadlock after 14 minutes when Patrick Reichelt opened the scoring, before the Philippines international turned provider seven minutes later; playing in an excellent cross that was met by Adrian Gallardo with a bullet header into the back of the net.
Kaya pulled one back four minutes before the half-hour mark through a strike from OJ Porteria but they were just unable to find an equaliser, allowing Ceres to hold out for the victory.
With the three points, Ceres climbed up to third on the table and are only a point behind leaders Global, although they do have two games in hand.
In Saturday’s earlier game, Pachanga Diliman picked up their first win of the season after beating Manila Jeepney.
After Gerard Valmayor had fired Pachanga in the 44th minute, Lee Jeong-woo then doubled their lead right on the stroke of halftime.
Lee netted once more three minutes before the half-hour mark and the rout was soon completed when Jung Jun-hyuk scored a fourth for his side in the 71st minute, before Eric Giganto grabbed a consolation for Jeepney with six minutes remaining.
