Kelantan through to quarters; PDRM stunned by Sime Darby

Kelantan are through to the Malaysia FA Cup quarter-finals after beating Kuala Lumpur 1-0 in the Tuesday’s Round of 16 clash at the Sultan Mohammad IV Stadium.

Following a goalless first half, Wan Zack Haikal provided the Red Warriors with the breakthrough when he netted in the 66th minute, which ultimately proved enough for the victory.

Next up for Kelantan will be Sime Darby, who put aside their woes in the Malaysia Super League by claiming a shock 4-2 win over PDRM at the Majlis Perbandaran Selayang Stadium.

It was the Cops who got off to a dream start when Dramane Traore fired them in front in the opening minute, but Dilshod Sharofetdinov grabbed the equaliser a minute before halftime.

Ivan Dragicevic then put the visitors in front with a goal in the 48th minute, although this time it was PDRM’s turn to pull level when Mamadou Sumareh scored five minutes after the hour mark.

Nonetheless, Sime Darby continued to press forward and reclaimed the advantage in the 76th minute through a strike from Nemanja Vidakovic, who scored again four minutes later to seal his side’s place in the last eight.

Johor Darul Ta’zim II also advanced to the quarters after Akram Mahinan found the back of the net two minutes from time to hand his side a 1-0 triumph over Kedah at the Darulmakmur Stadium.

Over at the Perak Stadium, Perak came from behind to defeat T-Team 2-1 in a heated clash that saw both sides reduced to ten men.

Although Farhod Tadjiyev had opened the scoring for T-Team after 15 minutes, the hosts took just two minutes to level the scores through a Woong Nam-kung effort.

And two minutes after the half-hour mark, Woong struck again to hand his side the win and book their berth in the quarters.

There was also similar joy for Penang after they claimed a come-from-behind 2-1 win over fellow Malaysia Premier League outfit NS Matrix at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium.

The hosts started strongly when Shahrizal Saad fired them ahead after three minutes, only for Beto to equalise for the Panthers nine minutes later.

It then looked as though extra-time – and perhaps penalties – would be needed to separate the sides, but Lee Kil-hoon found the winner in the 80th minute to send his side through.
