Ceres maintained their perfect start to the 2015 United Football League season after claiming a sixth consecutive victory by beating Green Archers United 2-1 on Tuesday evening.
There was little separating the two sides in the first half at the Rizal Memorial Stadium as neither was able to find the breakthrough, although Ceres were dealt a real blow when Jalsor Soriano was sent off for a second bookable offence just before the break.
But despite the numerical deficit, they went on to claim the lead in the 70th minute when Manny Ott scored with an unstoppable shot, before Juan Luis Guirado headed home a corner nine minutes later to double their advantage.
The Archers managed to pull one back with three minutes remaining through a strike from substitute Kennedy Uzoka, who only took six minutes to make an impact after coming on for Daniel Del Rio.
Nonetheless, it was just a matter of too little too late for the Green Archers as Ceres held out for the win, which takes them up to second place with a game in hand, behind leaders Kaya only on goal difference.
